Park Manor History
Park Manor began as a joint project between the Presbyterian Church and the Tennessee Council on Aging. In concert with the Presbytery of Middle Tennessee, Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr. responded to a growing need in our community for quality senior retirement living.
Dr. Frist, along with Hugh Knox, a moderator of the Presbytery, and Dr. Thomas Barr, a former pastor of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, joined together and obtained approval for the project. With Donald Cowan taking on the role of architect, and the Westminster Presbyterian Church and its members playing a leading role in the construction, J.A. Jones Construction Company began building Park Manor in January
1961, and on July 1, 1962, our doors were opened for occupancy.
Shortly after commencing operations, we were fortunate enough to be presented with a generous donation by Almeda Bozeman Johnson and in time, through intense marketing and implementation of management objectives, Park Manor was fully occupied with a substantial waiting list.
In 1970, we undertook some developments and began making additions to our property. We built the Blakemore Center, an auditorium funded in the memory of Mary Julia Blakemore, created additional office space, and enlarged the kitchen and dining room area.
Park Manor has maintained an excellent reputation for providing the highest possible level of care and services during its years of operation. Today, we continue to be a Nashville tradition by offering our residents upscale independence and superior service.
